The Path deep enough for diving. rocks, sand, grass. Ancient not-yet traveled thoughts from a glowing dark past that Continues to inform reform and forecast the inevitable. This path fast silent company wisdom and visions are theirs and mine As our lives intersect only on this path. How did I find this path? Inevitable laughs at plans. Strength and beauty emerge at any time in any place in many forms. Sun moon ever-present rain and drought flatland mountains reaching from the ocean up to the clouds firelined mountains’ nighttime skyline Far from the cool summer streams and spring-fed lakes Fantasized by concrete, bricks, glass, prisons, gradually permanently Constructed by each of us for everyone but us. Silent, unseen often has great power. Yet we speak, see and hear. Watch and listen. I’m from a place where everyone looks like an answer. Unseen is not unnoticed. Unheard isn’t silent. Your eyes a deep sweet water. Your mouth a glowing ember. Someday I’ll open the door and you will be there Uninvited because you’re always invited. Awkward because that’s how truth can be. Up the fire escape To the no escape the “I can’t believe anyone lives here.” Escape. - Stan Smith

The Path

deep enough for diving.
rocks, sand, grass.
Ancient not-yet traveled thoughts
from a glowing dark past that
Continues to inform reform and forecast the inevitable.
This path
fast silent company
wisdom and visions are theirs and mine
As our lives intersect
only on this path.
How did I find this path?
Inevitable laughs at plans.
Strength and beauty emerge at any time in any place
in many forms.
Sun moon ever-present
rain and drought
flatland mountains reaching from the ocean up to the clouds
firelined mountains’ nighttime skyline
Far from the cool summer streams and spring-fed lakes
Fantasized by concrete, bricks, glass, prisons,
gradually permanently
Constructed by each of us for everyone but us.

Someday I’ll open the door and you will be there
Uninvited because you’re always invited.
Awkward because that’s how truth can be.
Up the fire escape
To the no escape
the “I can’t believe anyone lives here.”
Escape.
